Mr Rao has up-to-date knowledge of Hip and Knee surgery with the philosophy to undertake surgery only if absolutely indicated. He works closely with colleagues to facilitate the correct support for a successful recovery. Mr Rao prides himself on his pleasant manners and clear communication with patients, giving them a range of options to discuss thoroughly with him before making a decision.
Mr. Sudhir Rao is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee and hip surgery including sports injuries. Mr Rao has expertise in hip and knee replacement surgery, ACL reconstruction, Meniscal Repair and Patella Realignment. {{ label }}
Mr. Rao has over 27 years of experience as a consultant and he is dedicated to providing the best and most current treatment options to his patients. His areas of expertise include knee replacement, hip replacement, knee arthroscopy, ACL surgery, and sports surgery.
Mr. Rao completed his MBBS at the Seth GS Medical College in 1985. Following a three-year training scheme, he obtained the Master of Surgery in Orthopaedics. He then pursued further training in the UK within the Wessex Orthopaedic Training Scheme and earned the MCh (Orthopaedics) from the University of Liverpool in 1991. His dedication to his field led him to pass the FRCS(Ed) and FRCS(Glas) exams, and he was awarded the FRCS (Orthopaedics) in 1996. He has been serving as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon since 1997.
Throughout his career, Mr. Rao has pursued specialised training to enhance his expertise. He completed a knee fellowship in Manchester in 1993 and a hip fellowship in 1994. In 1996, he underwent specialised training in knee and sports injuries in Boston, USA, and received training in shoulder surgery at the University of Washington.
Since 1997, Mr. Rao has held specialised knee, hip, and sports clinics in both the NHS and private sectors. He has performed numerous knee arthroscopies, knee anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions, multi-ligament reconstructions, knee and hip replacements.
Mr. Rao has a particular interest in knee and hip surgery, and he possesses expertise in treating sports injuries related to football, rugby, and skiing, as well as managing arthritis in these joints. He welcomes both self-funded and insured patients and consults with patients at Chelsfield Park Hospital, Blackheath Hospital, and Sloane Hospital and KIMS Hospital, Maidstone where he serves both NHS and private patients.
