Mr Ayliffe currently holds the position of Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, University College Hospitals and honorary senior lecturer at the Institute of Child Health University of London. He is a consultant cleft lip and palate surgeon to the North Thames Cleft Network. Mr Ayliffe is visiting professor, King Faisal Hospital, Riyadh.
Mr Ayliffe qualified in Dentistry in 1983 and in Medicine in 1992 from The University of London, United Kingdom.
Mr Ayliffe underwent basic training in general, plastic and ophthalmic surgery followed by specialist training in Maxillofacial Surgery in a number of London hospitals and South Thames Training School, gaining a Fellowship in Plastic Surgery.
During his training years, Mr Ayliffe collected a series of distinctions including awards for Best Research, Best Clinical Papers, Surgical Innovation Prize and International trainee prize amongst others. Mr Ayliffe is the only person to have ever collected all possible prizes available to a Maxillofacial Surgery trainee in the UK.
Mr Ayliffe has written and published many scientific papers and book chapters.
Mr Ayliffe has completed over fifty medical missions in the Developing World. He is a board member and advises many medical charities on humanitarian work.
