Dr Ali is an internationally trained and highly experienced consultant plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon. She graduated from St Thomas Hospital Medical School, University of London with First Class Anatomy BSc honours and a research thesis on skeletal remains based at the Natural History Museum. Dr Ali continued her research interests, studying Leprosy in Venezuela and then later combined both interests, looking at the signs of leprosy in ancient bones. She completed her Doctorate at the Centre for Cutaneous Research, University of London, describing newly discovered innate immune peptides known as Human Beta Defensins in the skin and gut and going on to develop novel antibodies for research purposes.
Dr Ali has been writing and publishing in the scientific literature since 1991 with her contribution to the World Health organisation study on the ocular complications of leprosy and winning the Great Britain and Ireland Anatomical Society Undergraduate prize.
Dr Ali pursued postgraduate surgical training at several London teaching hospitals including St Thomas’ and the Royal London, as well as specialist units such as Great Ormond Street and the St Andrews Burns Unit at Chelmsford. Her interest in microvascular surgery was sparked when she was the only British junior doctor to attend the inaugural meeting of the World Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery in Taiwan in 2001. Since that time, she has pursued an interest in microvascular breast reconstruction and perforator flap surgery with additional training and fellowships in microsurgery, breast reconstruction, breast aesthetics and advanced surgery as well as several advanced aesthetics fellowship in Brazil with her friend and mentor the late Professor Ivo Pitanguy. She has gone on to write numerous paper on microvascular surgery and breast reconstruction and contributed to some of the most respected texts in Plastic surgery including Grabb’s Encyclopaedia of Flaps, Scott Spear’s ‘Surgery of the Breast: Principles and Art’ and the inaugural Perforator flaps books (Blondeel et al). She has collaborated and written with some of the most esteemed names in International plastic surgery. Her papers have been cited hundreds of times and she has been invited Keynote speaker or presenter at numerous National and International meetings from Singapore to Mexico.
Dr Ali has practiced in the NHS for 25 years and was a consultant in microvascular breast reconstruction for the last 10 years before relocating to London in 2017 to develop her breast and facial aesthetics practice in the private sector. Dr Ali continues to pursue her interest in breast reconstruction, congenital breast abnormalities and breast aesthetics. Her facial practice is sophisticated and nuanced combining the best of surgical innovations, non-surgical technologies and therapeutic skincare to serve the needs of her wide spectrum of discerning clients. She is a pioneer of fat transfer and the use of stromal vascular fraction (SVF) to inject stem cell rich media to scalp, face, breasts, scars in order to rejuvenate and regenerate tissues and volumise and reconstruct defects. She has developed a large regenerative aesthetics practice.
