Dr Carolyn Barshall has been a GP in central London for 28 years, initially working in the NHS and for the last 12 years mainly in the private sector. She still retains her registration with the NHS and registered to work supporting the NHS in the recent Covid 19 crisis. {{ label }}
Carolyn was born in Australia and trained at Adelaide University and commenced her General Practice training program there, moving to London in 1989 to study Anaesthetics for one year with the plan of moving back to Australia to become a Rural based GP.
Instead, London was to become her home and she achieved several post graduate qualifications in the UK – Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners, Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, College of Anaesthetists part 1 exam and a Diploma in Homeopathy.
As a family GP for 28 years and mother of two daughters, Dr Barshall can draw on her extensive experience and knowledge in her medical practice at Chelsea General Practice. She enjoys all aspects of Family Practice with a special interest in adolescent health, health screening for men & women, managing the menopause with ‘Body identical hormones’ – the more modern approach to HRT. She also has a keen interest in assessing and supporting those with mental health issues, anxiety & depression and has an excellent network of specialists and therapists when referral is appropriate.
An active member of the IDF (Independent Doctors Federation), Dr Barshall enjoys attending regular postgraduate meetings and keeping her knowledge and skills up to date.
Dr Barshall is also a member of a Balant Group with fellow private GP’s looking at the psychological aspects of general practice, the ‘Young Doctors Group’ of private GP’s who meet monthly and share ideas on current clinical and practical aspects of practice and a Supervision group with other GP’s, psychotherapists, psychiatrists and psychologists who meet quarterly. She is also a member of ‘the Sloane Society’ and ‘Chelsea Clinical Society’.
Dr Barshall refers to consultants from all the leading Independent Hospitals in England and worldwide and has established strong International links, with an extensive network of contacts in other major cities around the world meaning that she can help facilitate care for patients who travel and work overseas.
