Dr Malcolm Prentice is a Consultant in Endocrinology, Diabetes and General Medicine with a special interest in thyroid diseases. He trained at King’s College Hospital and has a BSc in Pharmacology from King’s College, London.
He has over 30 years’ experience of inpatient and outpatient management of endocrinology, diabetes and general medicine.
He was one of the first in the UK to set up a one-stop Thyroid Nodule Clinic with ultrasound and biopsy in 1990.
He initiated the National Training Course for Thyroid Ultrasound and Biopsy jointly with the support of the Royal College of Radiologists, which he has run since 2005.
He is the co-author of the National Guidelines for the Management of Differentiated Thyroid Cancer (Editions 1 and 2). He is Administration of Radioactive Substances Advisory Committee-licensed for radioactive iodine treatment of thyrotoxicosis and goitre.
He is a member of the UK Iodine Group to help promote safe iodine levels in the UK population, to avoid the risk of low IQ babies and complications in pregnancy.

- Fine Needle Thyroid Biopsy
I am a very experienced endocrinologist and thyroid diseases specialist.

I have achieved the following awards:
- First Prize, Norman S. Plummer Memorial Postgraduate Prize, 1982
- Nominated for 4th and 5th Awards for Excellence in NHS Scheme Croydon 1997, 1998
- NHS B Merit Award 2000, renewed 2005 and 2014
- Certificate of Excellence award for Patient Care and Excellent Teamwork from Croydon Health Services, 2019
Memberships
I am a Former Secretary and Treasurer of British Thyroid Association and was elected to the UK Iodine Group.
Training Positions
I have been a clinical teacher and lecturer since 1988 and recently undertook a voluntary NHS teaching role for thyroid ultrasound and biopsy (2019-20).
