Introduction to Private Healthcare

Take the first step towards better health

If you’re new to private healthcare, it can seem like a daunting and unfamiliar process. But here at King Edward VII’s Hospital, we’re here to help you through the process every step of the way.

Accessing private healthcare can really speed up the process for you, whether that is having some blood tests, having some imaging to understand what the problem is, or whether it is actually moving forward to a surgical procedure. There are a range of ways to pay for your treatment including using private health insurance, self-paying for your treatment up front or spreading the cost of treatment with a flexible payment plan.

Did you know?

  • You don’t need a GP referral you can book directly with us.
  • You can hold your place within the NHS and still use King Edward VII’s Hospital.
  • You can spread the cost of private treatment, making it affordable.
  • There are no hidden fees. What we quote is what you pay.
  • King Edward VII’s Hospital profits fund free care for veterans.

Choosing your consultant

One of the benefits of paying for private treatment is that you get to choose your specialist consultant. Initial appointments can be booked in as little as 24 hours, giving you rapid access to an expert diagnosis and treatment plan.

If you’re not sure which consultant would be best to help you with your condition, our patient advisors are on hand to help you pick the right doctor for you. You can also find details about each of our consultants on our website where they explain their specialities, procedures and type of care.

You can also download our Hospital Brochure to find out if King Edward VII’s Hospital is the right choice for you.

Booking your consultation

Once you’ve chosen your consultant, you’ll be ready to book a face-to-face initial consultation. Our patient advisors will be able to arrange a convenient time for you to visit our comfortable and stylish outpatient centre.

If you are self-paying for your appointment you will be advised of your consultant’s fee ahead of your appointment before paying in advance.

If you are using health insurance you will need to have a referral from your GP. If you can’t wait for a GP appointment you could also see one of King Edward VII’s Hospital’s private GPs who will also be able to give you the referral for your insurance company.
