Pharmacy

Personalised care

We aim to ensure all patients who stay with us see a pharmacist within 24 hours of admission. Our pharmacist will visit you at your bedside to take a detailed drug history. This ensures we can continue any regular drugs while also looking at extra medication you may need as part of your treatment. We will discuss any pain management needs to ensure your stay with us is comfortable and as pain free as possible.

During your stay you can request a personalised information leaflet listing all the medications you are taking, what they are for and when to take them. Patients can also request a full review of all medications they are taking at any time.

As we are an independent pharmacy we have access to medicines provided worldwide, including all the latest pharmaceutical innovations, meaning we can provide the best possible care for all our patients. Where necessary our pharmacy team can liaise with insurance companies on your behalf, ensuring the right drugs are available to meet your needs.

Ensuring medication safety

Our pharmacy team works closely with the consultants and nurses in our hospital, providing expert advice and guidance about medicines and prescribing wherever needed. This close working relationship helps to maintain high standards of medication safety throughout the hospital. Our Pharmacy Manager regularly provides training sessions for nursing staff, building their knowledge and understanding about medication and how to avoid drug-related incidents. The pharmacy team is also committed to continuous professional development, regularly attending conferences and training to ensure our patients receive the latest evidence-based treatments and care.

We are open on Saturdays and provide an on-call service

To ensure our patients receive consistent high quality care throughout the week we have extended our pharmacy opening hours to Saturdays 9.30am-5pm, in addition to the existing Monday to Friday 8.30am-6.30pm.

Having a regular Saturday service helps to reduce incidents such as:

  • Missed doses
  • Prescription errors
  • Lack of medicines reconciliation
  • Delayed discharge due to waiting for discharge medication

The pharmacy department now also provides a patient focused on-call service, giving access to a Senior Pharmacist 24/7, which includes:

  • The provision of advice to medical staff, patients and other healthcare professionals including prescribing issues and advising on administration of medications.
  • Coming back to hospital when needed for urgent dispensing of medications for newly admitted patients where requested and especially medicines not available onsite.
  • Initiation of drug recalls, where appropriate

We hope the extra services will provide support to consultants and help patients receive best quality care.
