Our Joint School programme aims to give patients the best chance of a smooth and minimal recovery time, getting you back on your feet and doing the things you love as soon as possible.

Joint School is part of the care we offer for all our hip, knee, shoulder & ankle joint replacement patients, as well as those who are having complex spinal procedures. This programme is all part of the service we offer at King Edward VII’s Hospital and you won’t be charged additionally.

You’ll receive a pre and post-operative advice to help you better understand and manage your condition, reduce the chance of complications and improve you recovery outcomes. As part of this programme you will receive 1 to 1 pre-surgery sessions with an orthopaedic clinical nurse specialist and physiotherapist, as well as your pre-assessment nurse appointment. This dedicated time gives you the chance to receive in-depth and personal advice to help with your recovery and ease any worries you may have. These sessions can be face to face or online depending on your situation.

If you choose to have your treatment with us, you will automatically be invited to take part in Joint School as part of your pre-assessment care. You’ll be access this programme if you have surgery on your:

  • Hip (replacements, revisions and resurfacing)
  • Knee (total & partial replacements and revisions)
  • Shoulder (replacements, revisions and hemi- arthroplasty)
  • Ankle (replacements, revisions, arthrodesis and surgeries that mean you need to be non-wright baring)
  • Spinal (complex surgeries)
