Other ways to support us
There are many ways in which you can support the great work of the Hospital. From buying our Christmas cards to organising a fundraising event or leaving a gift in your Will, your contribution will directly support the care provided to veterans of the Armed Forces.
What we do
King Edward VII’s Hospital is an independent hospital with a proud history of Royal Patronage. We are dedicated to ensuring our nursing team and consultants are provided with the best possible support and technology. We offer truly personalised medical care that combines the world-leading expertise our patients demand, with the impeccable standards of nursing care they deserve.
This has been our way since 1899.
Our Heritage
Our commitment to outstanding patient care dates back to 1899, when sisters Agnes and Fanny Keyser devoted themselves and their home to caring for sick and wounded officers returning from the Second Boer War. Thanks to the hard work of the two sisters, King Edward VII became the hospital’s first Patron and generous support from members of the public enabled development and eventually lead to the move to its current location. The Hospital’s founding commitment to serving veterans is as central today as it was at the time of its founding.
A charitable hospital for the future
Our hospital is a charity. We thrive on a spirit of philanthropy, with generous donations keeping us at the forefront of medical care. Our charitable conscience keeps us dedicated to providing the highest levels of subsidised care to veterans of The Armed Forces. Veterans have received help from King Edward VII’s Hospital since 1899. The Hospital is dedicated to ensuring that our nursing team and consultants are provided with the best possible support and technology to enable the highest standards of clinical care. A gift in your will would go directly into medical equipment and technology that will contribute to the Hospital’s digital transformation.
In doing so we will improve day-to-day operational efficiency and ensure that maximum care and attention can be placed on the individual needs of each patient.
The impact of a gift in your Will
A gift in your will could help fund works that will upgrade systems and deliver a full range of sector-leading diagnostic, treatment and support technologies. It could streamline clinical operations and safeguard the future of the Hospital, guaranteeing the best for our patients.
Improvements to the Hospital can include:
1. Refurbishment of all patient rooms which will bring them up to best in class technical, environmental and aesthetic standards to ensure the highest standard of patient care.
2. Developing and upgrading the building complex in terms of environmental standards, energy efficiency and sustainability to enable the highest standards of medical care.
3. Upgrading medical equipment to the highest standard of diagnostics to provide quick and precise results to even more patients.
On average, 30% of the voluntary income we have received over the last six years has come through generous legacies. We feel deeply honoured that so many patients and supporters have chosen to remember the Hospital in their wills and are hugely grateful to all those who have already let us know that they have made a legacy pledge to King Edward VII’s Hospital.
As a charity, gifts in wills play a crucial part in meeting our charitable objectives. They enable us to undertake major projects and remain at the forefront of medical innovation, essential to us being able to provide the very best care to our patients, including many Veterans of the Armed Forces, as has been our way since we were founded.
The Hospital has been a recipient of generous legacies since its earliest days, being informed of its first, very special legacy, in 1911 in a letter from General Sir Dighton Probyn, VC, GCB, GCSI, GCVO, ISO, PC, Private Secretary to Queen Alexandra, forwarding a cheque for £300 being the balance due to complete the payment of the second £500 promised by his Majesty, King Edward VII.
“ Dear Sister Agnes, I have not the slightest doubt in my own mind, that in now forwarding on the enclosed cheque for £300, to complete the payment of the second £500 promised by our late King to “King Edward VII’s Hospital for Officers”, I am only paying a just debt, and in doing so, carrying out his late Majesty’s wishes – two instalments of £100 each, the King had paid himself, in 1908 and 1909 I think, leaving therefore a balance of £300 due by His Majesty’s estate to the Hospital. I am so glad I found this out in time, not only for the sake of your most excellent Hospital, but also, and perhaps more particularly, for the sake of our late dear good King, who, if he knows anything about it, I am sure would be vexed with his late “Keeper of the Privy Purse” if he (that is myself!) hesitated for one moment to settle this just claim. With all good wishes for your splendid institution and every sincere hope that you may long be spared to manage it, and thus ensure its permanent success.”
Sandringham, Norfolk February 23rd 1911
