Job Summary
This position is to provide support and assistance to our Therapists’ working with in-patients and out-patients in wards, in the gym and in our hydro-therapy pool.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work under the direction of our Physiotherapists with both in-patients and out-patients. You will deliver therapy programmes and activities to patients with varying needs within the guidelines provided by the Therapists.
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will also carry out administrative tasks and participate in team meetings, and play an active role in the departmental audit programme.
This is a full time role working 37.5 hours per week, including some weekend work.

Responsibilities & Duties
• Assist Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in the provision of therapy using skills and techniques independently once trained
• Follow treatment plans for patients, seeking guidance and advice on issues outside own competencies
• Communicate effectively with therapists, patients, relatives, carers and other staff in all matters relating to patient care, treatment and service delivery
• Keep the department clean and tidy ensure equipment is cleaned and checked regularly
• To carry out day-to-day tasks accurately, in an organised manner within specified time frames.
• To be able to work autonomously being accountable for their own professional actions.
• Support the physiotherapists with the smooth running of the hydrotherapy sessions
• Assist with the preparation of the gym and hydrotherapy area
• To perform other patient related duties as directed and/or supervised by a physiotherapist e.g. patient positioning, supervised mobility practice, exercise programs, stairs practice
• To assist physiotherapists by conducting pre-operative introductions to physiotherapy service
• To ensure all relevant paperwork is completed correctly
• To observe the policies, procedures and standards of King Edward VII’s Hospital together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations.
• To maintain appropriate levels of linen and consumables in clinical areas and place a weekly stock order
• Collect unused and returned equipment from wards on a daily basis and clean it thoroughly
• To maintain cleanliness of all physiotherapy equipment including hydrotherapy plinths and gym plinths, following the cleaning schedule
• Identify opportunities to improve the Therapy services
• Implement and monitor own personal development by keeping a CPD portfolio
• Contribute to completion of departmental audits

Training Requirements
• Previous experience in healthcare, knowledge and understanding of Therapy Services desired
• Complete departmental induction programme
• Attend the Hospital Induction programme
• Attend mandatory study days
• Attend any other training/ study days as requested

Health & Safety Responsibilities
• Attend regular staff meetings and in service training
• Attend all relevant mandatory training (e.g. resuscitation, manual handling)
• Comply with departmental policies and procedures at all times
• Notify the Physiotherapy Manager of any equipment in need of repair or maintenance
• Liaise with engineers/ help desks regarding departmental matters
• Ensure that high standards of cleanliness and presentation are maintained within the department at all times: to notify Housekeeping if further cleaning is required

• He/ she must maintain a smart appearance and pay great attention to personal hygiene
• He/ she must be able to communicate written, verbal and electronic information clearly, accurately and concisely
• He/ she will conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times
• He/ she must demonstrate the ability to work to a high standard both independently and as part of a team
• He/ she must be IT literate and able to perform basic tasks using Microsoft Word, Excel and using the Internet
