Job summary:
We have an opportunity for a motivated, committed, and experienced CNS to join our Plastics and Dermatology team. This role will support our Dermatology and Plastic Consultants and ensure a continuity of care for our patients. As a newly created position, you will be supported by our Head of Cancer Services, by department clinical managers, and clinical staff across all treatment areas (outpatients, preop, theatres, and inpatients). Additionally, this post has been created in conjunction with our specialty Consultants, which will also be supporting your development in this new role.
The role supports nurse-led clinics, and cancer care pathways. You will act as a key worker for patients, coordinating care, providing specialist advice and holistic support.
The post holder will be qualified nurse with NMC registration, experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, and who has the skills to support dermatology and plastic services specialties. Your duties will include assessing, leading, and at times delivering high quality nursing care based off evidence-based practices. Both services conduct planned treatments, minor surgical procedures, and specialty nursing care for patients during their outpatient appointments. Additionally, Plastics also has an inpatient and theatre mission. You will also be responsible for providing 1:1 Consultant and patient support, joint clinics with the Consultant, in service education for our clinical staff, and represent the service as needed for MDT’s
Additionally, you will work to maintain and enhance the customer experience, and satisfaction of our service users. You will ensure that standards of patient care are consistently always maintained in accordance with agreed Hospital policies and procedures. As a skilled member of our CNS nursing team, you will promote and safeguard the well-being and interests of all patients, employees and visitors.
You will act as a specialist resource in dermatology and plastic surgery nursing care, including skin cancer management, and techniques, in both settings, to optimise skin healing, and be available for patients from pre operative initial steps, or diagnosis, to peri-operative holistic support, and enhancing post operative resilience and ongoing recovery, applying your specialist knowledge and clinical reasoning.
Our patients are central to their care, and you would holistically support their needs, empowering them at every step and advocating the best care possible for each individual is key.
About you:
- Minimum 4 years nursing experience required working as either a Band 7 Derm and Plastics CNS
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Evidence of further education at degree level or equivalent, including Psychology level 2
- Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Previous experience managing, delegating, and supervising staff, while functioning as a shift leader, charge nurse, or team lead is desirable
- Experience working in private healthcare setting is also highly desirable
Education and Support
- Provide information and psychological support to patients undergoing reconstructive, including those with cancer related diagnosis’s/ procedures and other plastic surgery procedures.
- Lead on wound care, scar management and recovery expectations.
- Work collaboratively with other CNS, for peer education, support and streamlining ongoing care.
Audit and Quality Improvement
- Collect and analyse data on clinical activity, patient outcomes, and service performance.
- Participate in audit, risk management and the development of clinical guidelines and protocols.
- Support compliance with national and local standards.
Professional; Development
- Maintain and develop specialist knowledge in Dermatology, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
- Attend relevant training courses.
- Engage in clinical supervision and reflective practice.
