Mr Tai strives to put patients at ease from the very first meeting, combining a friendly and approachable manner with a reassuring presence. As a high-volume surgeon, he performs total hip replacements at a rate more than three times the national average, providing patients with the confidence of his extensive experience.
He is deeply committed to achieving the best possible outcomes and ensures that patients are actively involved in every step of the decision-making process throughout their surgical journey.
Mr Stephen Tai is an experienced, double fellowship trained, high volume Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon whose practice is dedicated to dealing with hip and knee replacement surgery, arthroscopy surgery of the knee, and traumatic injuries.
Having studied medicine at St Mary’s Hospital medical school, Mr Tai underwent specialist training on the highly regarded Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, Specialist Registrar rotation. He then continued his sub-specialty training in adult hip and knee replacement surgery on the prestigious year-long fellowship with the Specialist Orthopaedic Group in Sydney, Australia. During this fellowship, Mr Tai was trained in the latest arthroplasty techniques, including the direct anterior approach to the hip, computer navigated hip replacements and patient specific implants.
Mr Tai has completed a second fellowship dealing exclusively in traumatic injuries (broken bones and soft tissues injuries) at University Hospital, Walsgrave – one of the busiest major trauma centres in the United Kingdom. Traumatic injuries remain a specialist interest of Mr Tai’s, in particular the management of fractures around hip replacements. Mr Tai has published a number of articles in highly respected peer-reviewed journals, that specifically relate to his areas of sub-speciality interest. He has also written book chapters on traumatic injuries for “Orthopaedic Trauma: The Stanmore and Royal London Guide”.
Mr Tai has previously provided on set surgerical advice for BBC’s “Holby City” and has even made a (very brief) cameo appearance as an Orthopaedic Surgeon.
When not working, Mr Tai enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, with his hobbies including golf, skiing, SCUBA diving, music and cooking.
