3 Min Read

London, 9 June 2025 – King Edward VII’s Hospital, a leading independent charitable hospital in London, has secured a ‘Good’ overall rating for surgical services in the latest unannounced inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), held on 30 April 2025.

The CQC’s assessment, published today, confirms the high standard of care, safety, and professionalism that defines King Edward VII’s Hospital’s approach to clinical excellence and patient-centred care. The report highlights the hospital’s consistently high standards across all assessed areas including safety, effectiveness, caring, responsiveness and leadership.

The inspectors praised King Edward VII’s Hospital for its commitment to treating patients with kindness, empathy and compassion, and for ensuring that privacy and dignity are upheld at all times.

The CQC report acknowledged the hospital’s strong culture of learning and improvement. Inspectors found that staff were empowered to raise concerns and engaged in continuous professional development, supported by robust leadership.

The inspection also found that leaders promoted a person-centred approach to safety and engage with people holistically. This culture allowed theatre staff to ensure surgery was responsive, compassionate and safe.

Patient feedback was also overwhelmingly positive. Patients highlighted compassionate staff, well-managed pain relief and comfortable facilities. The hospital’s use of 24/7 clinical helplines and innovative online platforms was also recognised as contributing to exceptional patient aftercare.

Jeremy Butler, CEO of King Edward VII’s Hospital, said:

“This report reflects our strategic focus on maintaining the highest standards of care, safety and governance, even during times of transformation.

“It’s a testament to our entire team’s commitment to delivering excellence every day, and to our ongoing investment in people, systems and innovation.

“We are proud that the CQC has recognised not only our compassion but also the strength of our leadership and culture of continuous improvement.”

Siân Allen, Medical Director of King Edward VII’s Hospital, said:

“This rating speaks to the clinical quality our teams deliver every day, not only through their skills and compassion, but through a strong culture of clinical integrity, accountability and innovation.

“From robust safety protocols to personalised recovery planning, the report rightly highlights the diligence with which we safeguard every patient’s journey.

“This is a powerful reflection of the care and commitment shown by our clinical teams across the hospital. It’s deeply rewarding to see their professionalism, collaboration and focus on safety reflected in the CQC’s findings.”
