Professional Biography

Mr Matyas Fehervari is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal, Bariatric and Robotic Surgeon and interventional endoscopist based in at King Edward VII’s Hospital. He completed his higher surgical training through the Imperial College London academic surgical programme before undertaking a dedicated Royal College of Surgeons fellowship in anti-reflux and bariatric surgery. He also completed international fellowships at the Mayo Clinic focusing on robotic and revisional bariatric surgery and at the University of Strasbourg in advanced bariatric endoscopy.

His clinical practice focuses on robotic and minimally invasive surgery alongside advanced therapeutic endoscopy. In addition to his clinical work, Mr Matyas Fehervari is actively involved in research, innovation, and medical education. He has authored more than 100 scientific papers and book chapters and contributes to national bariatric safety and outcomes research through the National Bariatric Surgery Registry Committee.

Beyond his medical and surgical training, he holds Master’s degrees in Surgical Endoscopy and Surgical Innovation alongside a PhD in Clinical Surgery, reflecting his strong interest in research, innovation, and modern minimally invasive surgery.

Mr Fehervari has a strong interest in helping patients with obesity and weight-related health problems achieve long-term, sustainable improvement in their health and quality of life. His practice beyond robotic and minimally invasive bariatric surgery includes minimally invasive endoscopic treatments for patients who may have experienced weight regain after previous bariatric procedures. He established the regional NHS Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty service and continues to develop advanced bariatric endoscopy and minimally invasive weight
management pathways within the NHS.

Alongside bariatric surgery, Mr Matyas Fehervari also specialises in reflux disease and anti-reflux surgery, as well as complex gallbladder and bile duct disease, including difficult gallstone surgery, laparoscopic bile duct exploration, intraoperative cholangiography, and minimally invasive single-stage bile duct stone surgery.

Known for his approachable and patient-focused manner, Mr Fehervari believes in clear communication, personalised care, and multidisciplinary treatment. He works closely with other surgeons, dietitians, psychologists, physicians, anaesthetists, and specialist nursing teams to ensure patients feel supported throughout their treatment journey.
He is a substantive Consultant Surgeon at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, where he leads advanced endoscopic service development, and also holds a non-substantive consultant appointment with Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He is a Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London, Endoscopy Training Hub Lead for Kent and Medway.
