Professional Biography

Mr Christof Kastner is a London-trained Consultant Urologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Nuffield Hospital and GenesisCare in Cambridge, and King Edward VII Hospital in London. He is Associate Professor at the University of Cambridge.

He is an internationally recognised expert in benign and malignant prostatic disease. Working with radiology and physics colleagues, he introduced MRI fusion technology to the UK and over the past 15 years has authored multiple influential publications that have transformed prostate cancer assessment.

Mr Kastner’s caring, reassuring and professional approach to his patients is supported by the accurate information of MRI-based prostate biopsies. These enable highly accurate diagnosis with excellent patient comfort. This allows him to offer his patients counselling on all prostate cancer treatment options, including MRI target-boost brachytherapy, active surveillance, surgery and radiotherapy.

His expertise includes over 1,000 cases of brachytherapy using MRI fusion to target boost and accurately destroy the tumour whilst minimising side-effects. He offers spacer gel insertion to reduce radiotherapy side effects.

He masters Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) for urinary symptoms due to benign prostatic enlargement, with more than 1,500 procedures performed since 2007.
Mr Kastner is known for adopting innovative urological and uro-oncological technologies to deliver outstanding patient outcomes.
