Professional Biography

Mr Nick Strouthidis is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon and director of the glaucoma service at Moorfields Eye Hospital. Mr Strouthidis' clinical work is focused on the diagnosis and management of all forms of adult glaucoma, as well as cataract surgery (especially in patients with glaucoma) and general ophthalmology. {{ label }}

He has particular expertise in the surgical management of complex and secondary glaucomas, as well as glaucoma revision surgery. He also co-manages the UK’s only dedicated combined glaucoma and corneal keratoprosthesis clinic. Mr Strouthidis has been active in adopting and investigating novel minimally invasive glaucoma surgical techniques, in particular Xen implantation surgery.

In addition to his clinical work, Nick has an active interest in research and training. He is a funded clinician-scientist at the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, where he is the lead for glaucoma clinical trials. He has research interests in optic nerve head imaging, optic nerve bio-mechanics, measuring progression in glaucoma and the investigation of new surgical treatments for glaucoma.

He is a clinical associate professor at the University of Sydney Medical School and holds and honorary research appointment at the Singapore Eye Research Institute. As the director of the clinical glaucoma fellowship programme at Moorfields, he oversees the largest glaucoma training programme in the world. He also sits on the editorial boards of the British Journal of Ophthalmology and Current Eye Research and is a Trustee of the International Glaucoma Association.
