Shift Times: 6.30am – 3pm & 11am – 7.30pm (Rotating shifts)

Job Purpose:

The Linen Room Porter is responsible for efficiently managing the linen and laundry operations within King Edward VII’s Hospital. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the hospital, contributing to the overall patient and staff experience.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Linen Stock Management:

  • Receive, check, and sort all clean linen delivered to the hospital.
  • Distribute linens to designated areas in the hospital, ensuring that wards, theatres, and other departments have sufficient stock at all times.
  • Collect used linens from hospital departments, ensuring adherence to infection control and hygiene standards.

Quality Control:

  • Inspect linens for quality, identifying any damaged or stained items and reporting them as per hospital procedures.
  • Ensure that linen supplies are rotated effectively to avoid shortages and maintain high standards of linen quality.

Inventory and Documentation:

  • Conduct regular stock counts, report inventory levels, and maintain accurate records.
  • Support housekeeping in monitoring linen usage and identifying areas for cost efficiency and waste reduction.

Health & Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to health, safety, and infection control guidelines at all times, ensuring that all procedures meet hospital standards.
  • Handle chemicals and cleaning equipment safely and responsibly, complying with COSHH regulations.
  • Actively participate in training sessions on health and safety, infection control, and manual handling.

Customer Service:

  • Respond promptly to linen requests from hospital departments, maintaining a high standard of service and professionalism.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues across departments to ensure seamless service delivery.

 

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience in a similar role within a healthcare or hospitality setting.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations, particularly infection control protocols.
  • Strong organisational skills, with an eye for detail and a proactive approach to tasks.
  • Physical ability to handle and move linen in compliance with manual handling guidelines.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong sense of teamwork.

 

Working Hours:

This role may require flexibility in shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, to meet the hospital’s needs.
