We are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Recovery Theatre Practitioner to join our team and play a pivotal role in ensuring the well-being of our patients.

 

Role Summary:

As a Recovery Theatre Practitioner at King Edward VII’s Hospital, you will be a vital member of our surgical team, responsible for high-quality post-operative care. Your main duties include ensuring safe patient transition from the operating room to recovery, monitoring their condition, and providing expert care.

Experience in a theatre or recovery setting is essential. You will assess patients, manage pain and medications, maintain accurate documentation, and respond to complications. Educating patients and families on post-operative care and ensuring equipment readiness are also key responsibilities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive assessments of post-operative patients, monitoring vital signs, consciousness levels, pain, and overall well-being
  • Administer advanced post-operative care, including wound care, pain management, and medication administration as necessary
  • Maintain vigilant watch over patients, promptly identifying any complications or adverse reactions to anaesthesia or surgery and taking immediate action
  • Prioritise patient comfort and well-being, addressing their immediate needs and offering emotional support
  • Maintain meticulous and accurate patient records, documenting all assessments, interventions, and patient responses
  • Collaborate effectively with the surgical team, anaesthetists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the highest quality of patient care
  • Be prepared to respond to emergencies and life-threatening situations, such as cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, or allergic reactions, following established protocols
  • Educate patients and their families on post-operative care, including follow-up appointments, medications, and activity restrictions
  • Ensure the readiness and functionality of all necessary equipment and supplies
  • Strictly adhere to infection control protocols, maintaining a clean and safe recovery area

 

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with current NMC registration
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in post-operative care and recovery in operating theatres
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • Strong knowledge of anaesthesia, surgical procedures, and post-operative complications
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional critical thinking skills
  • Proficient in collaborating effectively within a diverse healthcare team
