About Us

King Edward VII’s Hospital is a prestigious 56-bed acute hospital dedicated to providing exceptional care to both civilian and military personnel. Our hospital houses a 4-bed Critical Care Unit (CCU) offering Level 2 and Level 3 care, supported by a 24/7 outreach service. We are expanding our Acute Medical Unit (AMU), located alongside the CCU. This is an exciting opportunity to lead these dynamic, high-stakes environments where excellent patient care is at the heart of everything we do.

 

Position Overview

As the Acute and Critical Care Nurse Manager, you will oversee the daily operations of both our Critical Care Unit and Acute Medical Unit. This position is ideal for an experienced Band 7 nurse with expertise in Critical Care and Outreach Services, or a driven Band 6 nurse seeking leadership progression. You will manage staff, coordinate patient care, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the highest standards of clinical care and patient safety.

Your leadership will be crucial to the seamless integration of our clinical teams and the development of service improvement initiatives. With both units being located next to each other, you will have the opportunity to streamline patient care and promote collaborative working across departments.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional leadership to the clinical teams within the Critical Care and Acute Medical Units, ensuring high standards of care and efficient operations.
  • Lead the Critical Care Outreach Service, collaborating with inpatient teams to improve patient outcomes.
  • Maintain visibility and accessibility to consultants, staff, patients, and carers, fostering open communication.
  • Act as a role model, offering guidance and support to ensure the highest standards of care, keeping patients at the centre of all activities.
  • Support clinical governance and service development by leading improvement initiatives that enhance patient care and departmental performance.
  • Manage resources effectively, ensuring the department operates within budget and staffing is optimized.
  • Support the Chief Nursing Officer in day-to-day clinical leadership and operational direction for seamless service delivery.

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a current NMC registration.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Critical Care or equivalent (ENB 100 or similar).
  • Proven leadership and significant clinical experience in Critical Care and Outreach services.
  • Experience managing clinical teams, coordinating patient care, and leading service improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with staff, patients, and senior management.
  • Experience in managing audits, risk management, and ensuring high standards of patient care.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • A focus on fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment.
