King Edward VII’s Hospital Sister Agnes officially opens its doors to pioneering

keyhole surgery

King Edward VII’s Hospital Sister Agnes, London’s leading private hospital, has unveiled its ambitious refurbishment project, which will assist keyhole surgery and enhance the performance of laparoscopic procedures. As the first private hospital in London to offer the Storz OR-1 system, theatre equipment and systems are fully integrated and brought under the surgeon’s sole control via a touch-screen monitor within the sterile field.

The Karl Storz OR-1 system, has a number of benefits to surgeons, clinical staff and patients alike. Wires and cables are off the floor and heavy equipment used in the past does not need to be moved around the operating theatre, equipment can be pre programmed by the surgeon, which in turn reduces theatre time and the photographs and video footage taken during the procedure can be stored electronically directly onto the patient notes.

Patients spend less time on the operating table and are therefore less susceptible to infection,  experience faster recovery time and scarring is minimised thanks to this state of the art technology.

Howorth Medical, a company with over 50 years experience in the design and build of Ultra-Clean Ventilation (UCV) systems for bacterial elimination from surgery in operating theatres, managed this challenging Hospital project. The company pioneered the development of an effective ultra clean air canopy, which protects the operating zone without the need for sidewalls. This system has developed over recent years and ensured that Howorth is universally recognised as the leading UCV system.

Clive Bath, Chief Executive of King Edward VII’s Hospital Sister Agnes says: “One of the many advantages of the Storz OR-1 system is that it provides enhanced visibility into the human body, enabling a range of minimally invasive surgical procedures to be performed with greater accuracy.”
