Professor Ellis Downes is a highly experienced Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a longstanding successful private practice. He has been a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology since 1999. He achieved his Degree in Medicine at the University of Leicester in July 1989 and became a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in November 1994 and a Fellow in 2008. Following 11 years as an NHS Consultant at Chase Farm Hospital, Enfield, he is now in full time independent private practice based in London.
He has extensive experience in all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Gynaecologically he has a particular interest in endoscopic surgery and urogynaecology (incontinence and prolapse). He offers investigation and treatment for the majority of benign gynaecological conditions with an emphasis on urinary incontinence, menstrual disorders and advanced laparoscopic surgery. He also offers hysterectomy sparing surgery for menorrhagia (endometrial ablation).
He is experienced in high risk and low risk obstetrics, has been delivering babies for over 25 years and prides himself on providing a high level of personalised care. He believes passionately in a woman’s right to choose how she would like to have her baby delivered and is very comfortable with caesarean section for ‘maternal request’ indication.
Professor Downes featured in the Tatler Doctors Guide 2013 as one of Britain’s Top 250 Consultants. He is a member of various societies, including The British Society of Gynaecologic Endoscopy, International Society of Gynecologic Endoscopy and the International Continence Society. He has a passion for teaching and research and tries to offer his patients the latest appropriate treatments. He is regularly invited to lecture and operate nationally and internationally.
Outside of medicine Professor Downes is married with two children and enjoys trying to improve his golf handicap and messing about on boats.
